Daytona Beach police officers shot former NFL player Jermaine Green at least five times inside his home on Sept. 25 and released footage from their body-cams Wednesday, reports WESH. Green, 32, was holding a knife to his girlfriend’s throat when police stepped in and shot him at least four times in the leg and once in the stomach.

Two officers tried to coax the former New York Giants player to let go of 37-year-old Katrina Johnson, as shown in the video, but he refused, prompting officers to open fire. Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood told WESH, “There’s a point in there where you can actually see the knife start to bend because he’s pushing with that much force into her chest,” he said. Neighbors told police they believed Green was going to kill Johnson, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

The terrifying video shows Green holding his girlfriend at knifepoint, then walking back toward the bed, falling onto it while still holding Johnson down with a knife. He holds the knife at her throat at first and then moves it to her chest. Johnson admitted to police that she thought Green was going to kill her, according to WESH.

Green’s aunt told WESH that he has mental health problems. Green has recovered since the incident and is being held without bond.
